Kat & Burn - Common Language

Kat & Burn are Saxophonist Katja Rieckermann (Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, David Foster, Brooks and Dunn, Dave Stewart/Eurythmics, Wang Chung) originally from Germany and Award Winning Multi-Instrumentalist / Producer / Engineer Bernhard Penzias, originally from Austria. Both had been living in Los Angeles for over 25 years. They met in early 2025 and decided to write some music together. It turned out they had an incredible musical chemistry and wrote a few songs, thirteen of which made it onto the album.

Stylistically, the project is song-oriented and very eclectic, with some jazz, reggae, dance, rock, spoken word, rap, and world music influences. The sound of every song is different from the next and surprises the listener. Most importantly, every song has a strong melody. Kat & Burn were able to consolidate a group of great musicians to help realize their vision. Thomas Lang on Drums, MB Gordy on Percussion, Ben White on Bass, Anne King on Trumpet, Roch Bordenave on Trombone and GRAMMY® Award winning Sekou Andrews doing Spoken Word.

The release of this album, "Common Language" happened on August 17, 2026. They did their first live performance at the world-famous Baked Potato on June 24 of the same year. The concert was sold out and everybody was raving about how awesome it was. Someone said: "Best music I've heard in a long time"! Kat & Burn put an incredible 8-piece band together with some of the finest musicians that LA has to offer.
